Popular Trekking Regions

Annapurna Region

Trekking in the Annapurna Region starts at a low altitude, gently winding through tropical gorges, forests, waterfalls and numerous villages up to the incredible Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges. This region is inhabited by the Magar and Gurung people, who are a mixture of Buddhists and Hindus. Trekking in the Annapurna region is more of a cultural experience with teahouses dotting the trail to welcome you with a hot lemon drink or chiya, the local tea. However, the Annapurna region is no less spectacular and ultimately delivers amazing mountain views.

Sunrise over the famous fishtail mountain, Machhapuchare, will leave you breathless. Machhapuchare is the sacred mountain of the Queen of Nepal and has never been climbed. Your trek in the Annapurna region will show you this most picturesque of all peaks from many different angles.

Everest Region

Containing three of the world’s seven highest mountains: Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Mount Everest, the Solu Khumbu region has become one of the most well trodden routes in Nepal. Winding up through the mountain countryside the vertical limits of your imagination will be tested as you feel your senses expanding vertically from valley to blue sky. High mountain pastures dotted with turquoise lakes combine with deep gorges and glacier ice flows. Feel the wide expanse of blue sky, ringed with snow capped peaks, as you sit on a windswept rock at Everest Base Camp and feel yourself almost on Top of the World.

The Sherpas are renowned the world over for their good humor, strength, endurance, and mountaineering skills. Climb through the Everest region with your hospitable and rambunctious Sherpa guides and porters, stopping at night to drink tungba, homemade millet beer, and enjoy the traditional dance and song of these proud people. Why not take a spin around the floor yourself! Expedition in Nepal offers three exciting treks into this region, including Everest Base Camp, Everest Panorama, and Everest via Gokyo.

Langtang Region

Trekking through Sherpa and Tamang highlands, crossing suspension bridges strung over wide gorges, through Buddhist territory abounding with prayer flags and memorial chortens at every pass and sacred place, the viewing of snowy peaks to the north and green hills to the south from a 4080-metre pass, you will be in the lap of the Gods.

Go direct to Langtang, or trek by way of Helambu, where the local Sherpas are friendly and the women are renowned for their beauty. Pause to explore the shores of Gosainkunda, one of many lakes located in the Langtang region, just twenty-five miles north of Kathmandu. Beside the lake in a rocky crevasse lies the source of the Trisuli River supposedly created by Shiva when he plunged his trident into the mountainside. Whether meditating on the waters or wandering through a flowering mountain pasture with a herd of yaks, snow giants looming above, this is one trek that will linger in your memory forever.
